Pending Amendments v9.7: open items after the v9.6 promotion

Written 2026-09-15 at the v9.6 promotion; revision 3 late the same evening, after Mike answered thirty questions in two rounds. This list replaces Pending Amendments v9.6. It is short on purpose. Everything applied at v9.6 is in Part C as a one-line record; the reasoning is in Changelog and Glossary v9.6, Part 9, and in the change register v9_6_Change_List_2026-09-15.md (Part 6 has the evening answers).

How to read it. Item numbers 1 to 66 are the same numbers the v9.6 list used, so chat references still resolve. New items start at 67. Part A is what only Mike can decide; the documents carry a stated assumption until he answers. Part B is everything else still live. Part C is closed.

A. Decisions Mike needs to make

One thing, and it does not block work this week. The documents carry the stated assumption until he answers. Three items closed on 2026-09-16: the rudder rate (103), where the battery percentage comes from (50), and the Airmar 200WX (105, dropped). All three are in Part C.

Two small identifications, for when the parcels land: the Amazon line hidden "for privacy" (B07PH5H6DM, $11.49, ordered 2026-09-13) and what the two 1/2 x 1/2 in 316 square bars are for (item 106). Neither blocks anything.


B. Live items carried, with what to do

1. Mission-risk number. Build Guide sec 14 still carries the ~91 percent figure marked STALE. It assumed redundant steering; Boat 1 has one Ewellix actuator and one VESC. Re-derive once heading wander is measured afloat (item 22). Never use the 33.5 percent figure from the 2026-09-04 email.

2. Displacement margin. Estimates sit at 5,520 to 5,590 lb against the 5,500 lb basis. The sec 11.2 weighing is the gate. The can is now 115 to 125 lb, not 60, which makes this tighter.

4. Camera head against the tube bore. Measure the Axis P1245 head against the 1-1/4 in G10 tube before bonding; aim check at 38 degrees.

5. Wet lab: chamber sizes and the gland schedule. The sensors are bought or ordered (SBE 45, DFRobot DO, flow sensor, dosing pump), so the chamber dimensions can be fixed; two populated stations on Boat 1. Depends on item 77.

7. Boat 2 steering redundancy. Open by decision: aux rudder, not a second actuator. Boat 2 only.

8. Drawings. Rev H wing sheets 2 and 6 are stale; there is no fabrication drawing for the can at all (the Wing Can Spec Sheet lists the nine numbers a fabricator still needs); the mast weldment has no fabricator yet.

9. Software spec document. Still unwritten. The software changes are collected in Reference/Software_Ticket_v9_6.md.

10. Boat 1 route document. Still unwritten; it gates the Canaries refit timing.

17. Release trunk core count. Count at loom time; fire pairs 12 to 14 AWG.

18. Nav lights. Check each box for the USCG mark and a 24 V rating before they go up.

19. Strum box. Read the model off the part in the shop; if it is not the Whale SB3422, Build Guide 3.5 names the wrong part.

22. Heading-wander measurement. One hour of logged compass heading under self-steering once the boat floats. It sets the steering move budget, which matters more now that the Ewellix's rod-travel rating is lower than the Thomson's.

25. Dacian at Electrodacus. Confirm the SBMS0 firmware has the low-temperature charge stop (parameter 29) and that EXTIO4 closed means charging allowed. Add: what the SBMS0 reads with the XT1 probe unplugged. No mail has gone yet.

29. Duckbill cracking pressure. Record it at the Part 10 check with light breath pressure.

32. Flipsky pigtails. Ask for a COMM pigtail, a CAN pigtail and the COMM pinout; confirm the SinCos encoder voltage.

33. Nichrome bake-off. 28 AWG against 30 AWG, wet, at 24 V; winner goes in the Drogue Box Guide sec 9.

34. Cutters. Piranha PDLC-1000 price still to land. Spurs will fabricate the deadwood mounting plate for about $390 and needs the prop hub diameter to pick Model A or B.

35. Central node pins. Count again on the bench (17 of 22 with the expander). The Nucleo on the bench is a G431RB, not the KB the documents named; either is fine. The Ewellix drive takes native pins: recount at firmware time (item 102).

38. Weather pod parts. Return any pod housing or QwiicBus parts bought for the post.

61. Prop shaft seal: bare-shaft length. The Lasdrop DrySeal D-100 is chosen (needs 3-1/2 in of bare shaft between the stern tube end and the coupling). Measure it before ordering; polish or sleeve the shaft where the lip rides.

81. Bridle thimbles: decide on arrival (Mike, 2026-09-15). When the OceanBrake boxes land, look at the boat-end eye of each bridle leg. A stainless thimble spliced in means four 3/8 in 316 shackles and nothing else; a bare rope eye means four thimbles as well. Do not ask Angus.

96. Loose ends on purchases. Answered 2026-09-15: the four KSD301 discs and the MOOKEERF bare 18/4 roll have NOT gone back yet (windows 2026-10-04 and about 2026-10-08); the tinned 18/4 wing cable was never ordered anywhere and is on the buy list (Amazon B0D9JV83HJ, $36.99); the three Hailo-8L boards are one flying and two Boat 2 stock, not spares. Still unidentified: the Amazon line hidden "for privacy" (B07PH5H6DM, $11.49) and the two 1/2 x 1/2 in 316 square bars (item 106).

111. Iridium B's deck penetration, carved out of the "all four" answer (2026-09-15). Mike answered "all four" antenna cables through the post's deck stub. Three of them work: the GPS, Starlink and Iridium A antennas all sit at the platform. The fourth does not. Iridium B's antenna is on the foredeck about 18 ft forward, so bringing its coax aft to the post would leave 18 ft of cable lying on the open foredeck where green water breaks; and the set's own rule, from the single-point-of-failure work, is that the two Iridium chains share no antenna, cable, gland or fuse, which one shared stub would break (a flooded stub would take both satellite paths, the GPS and Starlink together). The documents now say: GPS, Starlink and Iridium A through the post stub; Iridium B through its own small penetration under its foredeck blister. That is two deck penetrations for antennas instead of five, and it costs one 1 in hole and one cord grip. Confirm, or say all four really do go aft.

87. Aft junction box size. With one switch it holds 10 RJ45 couplers and about 21 entries in a 12 x 8 x 5 in box. Measure before the loom; it may need a bigger box.

88. TSW202 bench test. Five checks: turn a PoE port off and on through the Web API and record the request and the firmware version; read the same port back over SNMP; read per-port watts; find out whether per-port power priority exists; power all seven devices at once and read the total. Pin the firmware. Launch Punch List item 38 is written around this.

89. Deliveries with clocks. Sea-Bird SBE 45 ships about 2026-10-26. OceanBrake drogues: freight paid 2026-09-09, no tracking yet. WD Blue 4 TB SSD due 2026-09-21. MEGA 250 A fuse due 2026-09-15. CX storage rack: FedEx failed twice. The Campbell BaroVUE 10 and HygroVUE 10: price and ship date from Josh.

92. Ewellix rod-travel budget. Ewellix rates the CAHB-22 at 5 km of double strokes. The voyage estimate was 11.2 km on the 190,000-move budget. Halve the moves by widening the deadband and lengthening the minimum interval; put the numbers in the System Settings Sheet; ask Ewellix what load their 5 km assumes.

93. Wing-tip mount detail. The G10 block in the top of the box spar, the meter arm and the terminal base are described but not drawn. Draw them before Stage 3 step 4.

94. Compliance link preload. 4 lbf initial. Tune at sea from the link-open alert; write the fit-out numbers in the wing records.

95. Pi A hull bond and the desiccant claim. Compute Bay 2.4 says desiccant cannot be the protection; the hull-bonded cooling session says that claim may be wrong. Check it when item 86 closes.

97. Switched-load channel 1: the enable relay or Starlink? Compute Bay sec 11 gives channel 1 to Starlink power; the Box Wiring Sheets draw the release enable relay as relay 1 of the same module. Settle it at fit-out before the lid labels are printed.

98. Science serial cables have no wall entries. Pi A is at 11 entries and none is for the three RS-232 cables and the RS-485 adapter. Decide where the powered USB hub lives and add the glands to the hole schedule.

99. Pod heater supply. The two pod heater pads (10 W each, so about 20 W together) used to run through the NearFi coupler. The coil pair that replaces it (item 108) has an unknown rating until the part is logged. When it is, either it carries the pad load or the pads run from the pod's own packs. Do not assume either way.

100. CLOSED 2026-09-15. The 1/4 in nylon tubing bought Sep 15 is for the tail and tab wiring only. The trailing-edge conduit is a separate bonded tube, 1/2 in inside diameter or more, and it now runs on to the wing tip carrying both the actuator cable and the wind meter cable, pulled at the same time at Stage 10.

101. Hull-glued box: bottom face versus bottom entries. The cooling session says glue the flat bottom of the box; Compute Bay secs 2.1 and 8 put the cable entries in the bottom face. Decide with item 86.

102. Ewellix drive pin count. Recount the central node's pins at firmware time (a reversing DC drive with current sensing takes native pins).

104. Drogue attachment rating. Withdrawn at revision 2: the attachment is justified by calculation against the 8,000 lb T8 fuse (each U-bolt breaks at 14,000 to 17,000 lb). Nothing left to do except keep the old 13,750 lb wording out of the documents.

108. Log the wing charging coil pair. Mike bought a 24 V inductive coil pair on Amazon on 2026-09-15 to replace the NearFi. No order confirmation had reached any mailbox by 10 pm, and the Taidacent part the buy list named comes in 12 V only, so it is a different product. Capture the part number and its rating at the next mail audit, then close item 99 with it.

110. Antenna cables through one stub: check the fit before the deck is closed. All four coaxes now share the post's 1 in deck stub and flexible conduit with the post bundle. Lay the whole bundle out on the bench and pass it through a sample stub before the real one is glassed in. The cable ends go through bare; the connectors are made up afterwards. If it will not pass, say so before the deck is closed, not after.

109. Buy list from the evening answers. Thomson Electrak MD MD24A025-0050CNO ($415, check the fairing against the STEP file first); Lasdrop DrySeal D-100 ($225, after item 61); a weatherproof 180 degree PoE fisheye for the foredeck ($150 to $200; return or reassign the FE-P); four release actuators for the T8 trigger cords ($1,000 allowance; PA-04-HS $197 each is a candidate); S1eX hydrophone (about $650) and a MOTU M2 interface (about $200); a second 50-pack of M6 x 12 mm 304 conical washers ($7); the CAN transceiver breakout for the wing pod; the tinned 18/4 shielded cable, 50 ft (Amazon B0D9JV83HJ, $36.99); PVC pipe and fittings for the four wet-lab chambers (about $120).

103 Rudder rate ACCEPTED 2026-09-16. About 2 deg/s at the 12 in station is enough: at 2 to 3 kt the rudder's force comes from water speed, not swing rate; storm mode parks the rod and streams the drogue; and the slower move spends less of the 5 km rod-travel budget. One software job comes with it: lengthen the jam detector's stall timer, which was tuned to the faster Thomson. 50 Battery percentage comes from the SBMS0 watchman, 2026-09-16. Its shunt is the only current sensor on the boat, and a separate shunt would add two bolted joints to the main negative for a number only needed roughly over days. Consequence: the SBMS0 USB serial lead stops being optional telemetry and becomes required; a stale stream sheds on a fixed conservative schedule and raises the quiet-watchman alert BMS Notes 6; System Settings 5; Design Decisions R-4.2A; Electronics 4.4; Battery Box Guide; Software Ticket
